Roadworks speeder loses licence

June 14, 2007

On Tuesday 12 June a 61 year old man lost his driving licence for speeding through the A90 roadworks. The motorcyclist was travelling at 71 mph within the 30 mph speed limit, 41 mph in excess of the speed limit.

The offence was detected by a mobile safety camera van at 1:13pm, a time where would have been construction workers close to the roadside. The speed limit has been reduced to 30mph to ensure the safety of the construction workers. Lothian and Borders Safety Camera Partnership will continue to enforce this speed limit.

The Motorcyclist was given a six points and a £200 fine, due to the fact that he already had 6 points on his licence this meant that he was disqualified for six months.

The speed limit has been reduced while the extension to the M9 is constructed, which has been viewed as the ‘missing link’ in the road network in Scotland. The new road will take away traffic from the busy A800 and speed up journey times.

Lothian and Borders Safety Camera Partnership spokesperson said:

It is extremely dangerous to work alongside fast moving traffic. Nobody would want to work in a dangerous office so we can’t expect those working outdoors to take risks either. This has been a positive result and set out a warning that speeding through road works is not acceptable and will be dealt with accordingly.
