Lothian and Borders Safety Camera Partnership is co-ordinating a Road Safety Village at this year’s Royal Highland Show, 24 – 27 June.
The Village will provide a showcase for all aspects of road safety and the opportunity for a range of road safety agencies, not only to demonstrate their individual roles but also, to show how they work together to improve road safety.
With something for everyone, the Village will provide interesting and interactive activities for all ages, from in-car safety information, a seat belt sled and advice on how to avoid a speeding ticket, the Village provides an opportunity to meet the road safety professionals.
An exciting display of vehicles will be on show, including a crashed car, an Artic Unit, a BMW X5, a Mini Moto, a Dune Buggy, motorbikes, Knockhill’s Teendrive car and a range of police vehicles. A team from International Rescue will be on hand with their unique emergency rescue vehicle.
Be sure not to miss out on the exciting “live” demonstration on what to do if you come across a road collision with input from the Police, the Fire and Rescue Service and International Rescue.
With opportunities to win Knockhill race day family tickets and a special prize of a Teen Drive experience for 13 – 16 year olds, the Road Safety Village will have something for everyone.
Chief Superintendent Charlie Common of Lothian and Borders Police said:
“Our over-riding aim is always about improving road safety. With the majority of people coming to the Show by car, and many of them using a range of vehicles in their day-to-day work, it’s particularly important that we get the road safety message across to this audience.
“But even with all these key organisations working together, we can only do so much. Our job is about raising awareness and encouraging people to understand that, as road users, they have to take responsibility for their own actions out on the road.
“The Royal Highland Show is an excellent opportunity for us to get together with the farming community and the many people who live in our rural communities. A key aspect of reducing casualties on our roads in 2010 is to educate drivers how to stay safe on rural roads. I hope everyone visiting the Road Safety Village will have gained the knowledge and skills that they need to keep themselves safe when driving on our roads.”
The Village is located on Avenue T in the Lifestyle Village.
