LBSCP remind the public that it is 30mph for a reason
August 03, 2009
From Monday 3 August, Lothian and Borders Safety Camera Partnership (LBSCP) will be running a speed awareness advertising campaign.
Hard-hitting posters and beer mats will be placed in over 140 pubs in the Lothian and Borders region, reminding people that the speed limit is 30mph for a reason. At 35mph a driver is twice as likely to kill someone as they are at 30mph.
The advert depicts a crash scene with an ambulance, a police vehicle in the background and the evidence of a night out in the foreground with the slogan “It’s 30mph for a reason! Don’t risk it.” The advert implies that a car has hit someone whilst on a night out.
Safety Camera Partnership manager, Colin McNeill said:
“In 2008, 37 were people killed on Lothian and Borders roads and it is the job of the Safety Camera Partnership to help reduce this number. We want people to slow down, we don’t want to catch them speeding. This is why the Partnership invests in education campaigns. If motorists are more alert to the dangers of speeding then I believe we can reduce the amount of collisions and fatalities that happen on our roads.”
