Around the Corner meets with bikers for this summers last ride out
On Monday 31 August the Around the Corner (ATC) team will be at the Glen Café at St Mary’s Loch to meet bikers.
Police motorcyclists, road safety officers and the safety camera partnership will be there to offer help and advice on how to have a safe ride, with advice ranging from how to improve your riding skills to tips on everything from clothing to overtaking and how to improve your observations with a free cuppa on offer too!
Throughout the summer the team have been out and about in the Scottish Borders speaking to bikers and encouraging safe riding. The campaign is a positive step in engaging with motorcyclists. Maps of rides have been developed showing bikers where they can stop and refuel; both bike and body. Most importantly the maps show where there are possible dangers such as a tight right hand bend.
Lothian and Borders Road Safety Coordinator and motorbiking enthusiast, Sandy Allan said:
“Far too often in the past we had to deal with bikers crashing on Border roads. The consequesnces are often serious. We want biker to enjoy our roads and return home safely. The campaign goes from strength to strength with more bikers visiting our website and visiting our campaign friendly business in the Borders. ”
This years biggest development has been the introduction of new signage with the ATC mascot showing which way the road bends, not only providing a warning for motorcyclists but a warning to motorists that motorcyclists are using the road.
Central Scotland Police are going to be meeting bikers at The Green Wellie at Tindrum on Sunday 30 August.
Other Local Authorities are adopting Around the Corner and the campaign may soon be recognised throughout Scotland. Perth and Kinross have recently launched their own maps and Grampian are in the process of implementing the unique signs in their area.
