Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pay?

If you choose to accept the Conditional Offer you must pay the amount in full - there is no facility to pay by instalments and your driving licence must be submitted, both the photo card (if held) and the counterpart. Payments can be made by cheque or postal order and should be made out to the Scottish Court Service. Check with the relevant Court if payment can be accepted by credit/debit card. Personal callers at all Court offices can pay by cash.

If you pay in person by cash at the nominated JP Court office, your driving licence will be endorsed and returned to you immediately.

I live outwith the Court area. Can I arrange to pay at my local Court office?

No. The Fixed Penalty fine can only be paid at or to one of the Court addresses given on your Conditional Offer.

What happens if the 28 day payment period has expired?

Once the 28 day payment period has expired no payment can be accepted for a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty. The matter will be reported to the relevant Procurator Fiscal who will deal with it accordingly.

Can I pay a higher penalty and have no penalty points endorsed on my licence?

NO. The driving licence must be tendered to the JP Court if a payment is to be accepted and then, when the Conditional Offer is paid, it is mandatory that the driving licence is endorsed with three penalty points.
