Cameras
• We use a variety of safety cameras to detect speeding vehicles and red light runners.
• All our safety cameras - fixed, mobile and red light - are indicated on the camera location Google maps. Click on the safety camera icon for detailed information about each individual camera site.
• All our cameras are calibrated on an annual basis, by a third party, in line with The Home Office Type Approval Process.

Fixed Gatso safety cameras
• Gatsometer Type 24 AUS.
• Offences are recorded onto 35mm film.
• The films are removed from the cameras on a weekly basis.
• Offences are viewed by police officers who will determine which vehicles have committed an offence.
• The police officer will use the secondary markings to confirm the speed.
• The rear of the cameras are covered in reflective red and yellow strips.
• As you approach a safety camera site there will be a safety camera sign telling you that there is a safety camera up ahead.
Fixed RedGuard safety cameras
• Fixed RedGuard cameras are digital cameras.
• The camera downloads offences direct to the Safety Camera Partnership office.
• RedGuard does not use any film.
• Offences are viewed by police officers who will determine which vehicles have committed an offence.
• The rear of the cameras are covered in reflective red and yellow strips.
• As you approach a safety camera site there will be a safety camera sign telling you that there is a safety camera up ahead.
Fixed red light cameras
• Red Light Camera Type 36.
• Offences are recorded onto 35mm film.
• Red light cameras can only be activated when the traffic light turns to red, as this is the power source for the camera. They will not work on green or amber.
• All traffic lights follow the same sequence and the same timing.
• The amber light is on for a fixed time.
• Before and after the stop line are loops imbedded into the road. If you cross the loops while the red traffic light is on this will activate the camera.
• Offences are viewed by police officers who will determine which vehicles have committed an offence.
Mobile Safety Cameras in vans
• Tele-Traffic LTI 20/20 Ultralyte 100.
• Housed inside large, brightly marked vans.
• The camera is operated by a trained technician who has been certified by the manufacturer to use the equipment.
• These cameras record live footage and record on to a DVD.
• Offences are viewed by police officers who will decide which vehicles have committed an offence.
• At the beginning and end of every enforcement period the camera goes through a series of set ups.
Mobile Safety Cameras on motorbike
• Tele-Traffic LTI 20-20 TS/M Speedscope Speed Measuring Device
• The camera is mounted on to the rear of a brightly marked police motorbike and the operator wears high visibility clothing
• The camera is operated by a police officer who has been certified by the manufacturer to use the equipment
• The camera records live footage on to a video
• Offences are viewed by police officers who will determine which vehicles have committed an offence
• At the beginning and end of every enforcement period the camera goes through a series of set up checks. This includes; a self check, a screen set up, display checks, scope alignment and a distance check. If the camera fails any of the checks it will not become operational.
Vehicle Activated Signs
• Vehicle Activated Signs are signs that flash the speed limit if you are travelling too fast.
• The signs are placed at mobile safety camera sites.
